2020 Heart of the Community Award – Aimee Tarte opened Lady and the Mug in 2017 to use coffee as an excuse to do good. She chose Coral Springs because she felt that she had to be here. She refers to her 12 employees as “Coffee Superheroes” and encourages them to volunteer and participate in the various charitable events at the coffee shop. She formed a nonprofit, Tartes Hearts, that holds annual events such as Mugsgiving and Santa Claus Bus for a Cause. In 2019, she raised over $9,000 to bring 22 veterans to Washington, D.C. on an Honor Flight. She has a Coffee of the Month and the proceeds go to different nonprofits throughout the year. Lady and the Mug isn’t distracted by profits and prefers to have a sense of purpose. Aimee Tarte, owner of Lady and the Mug is the 2020 Heart of the Community winner.
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital

2020 Commissioner’s Award – Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, the 2020 Commissioner’s Award winner, is the largest provider of pediatric care in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. The Coral Springs facility opened in 2011 and has expanded multiple times to meet the needs of the community. It has doubled its rehab program and is the highest ranked orthopedic program in the state. The hospital provides services including general surgery, audiology, pulmonology, ENT and delivers 54% of the babies in Broward County. Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital believes its duty is to advocate on behalf of the children; its design is also driven by direct parent and patient feedback. Community involvement is key to the success of the hospital. It has a contract to provide trainers to 29 schools in the County, including Coral Springs Charter School. It has been a sponsor of local events such as the Kreul Classic and the Festival of the Arts.

2020 Small Company Award – Rema Deo founded 24by7 Security in 2013 and provides cybersecurity and compliance for highly regulated businesses; healthcare is its largest client portfolio. As the CEO of a woman and minority-owned business, Remo prides herself on her diverse staff of 16, six of whom were hired in 2019. The expansion of services including breach environment simulation, client cyber certification and cyber advice training to small and midsize businesses allowed for 25% growth over the past year. This Small Company Award winner has won multiple awards from Info Security Guide and CEO World Awards. 24by7 Security is guided by the key values of passion, accountability, good teamwork, integrity and responsiveness. The company is a strong supporter of professional development and interns. It believes in taking the time to hire the right person with the right character.

2020 Legacy Award – Oma’s Garden, the 2020 Legacy Award winner, has been in the City for 30 years. Diane Farrar promised her grandmother that she would take care of her gardens after she passed; a self-admitted “black thumb”, she opened the shop instead. She has built relationships with her customers over the years and seen families through births, proms, weddings and other major life milestones. Oma’s has seen 10% growth year over year. She employs four people and works with local high school ESE programs.

2020 Large Company Award – 2020 Large Company Award Winner United Medco Pharmaceuticals is a distributor and wholesaler of over the counter medicines and products. This company incorporated in 2004 and has demonstrated steady growth since its creation. United Medco employs 120 individuals in their state-of-the-art facility in Coral Springs Corporate Park. The company is expanding to a second facility in Coral Springs to accommodate an additional 100 employees. This fast-growing company is committed to providing cost-effective, quality products and exceptional customer service to their nationwide customers.
