2020 Heart of the Community Award – Owned and operated by Aimee Tarte, Lady and the Mug is a local coffee shop committed to using coffee as an excuse to do good. In 2019, $9,600 were raised to send 22 local veterans on Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to be honored. Annual events such as Mugsgiving and Santa Claus for a Cause are held as well to help the less fortunate and projects are done in collaboration with her non-profit Tarte’s Hearts. Proceeds raised from initiatives on location throughout the year are also donated to local charities. Lady and the Mug is a business focused on counting impact, not profit.
Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital

2020 Commissioner’s Award – Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, the 2020 Commissioner’s Award winner, is the largest provider of pediatric care in Broward and Palm Beach Counties. The Coral Springs facility opened in 2011 and has expanded multiple times to meet the needs of the community. It has doubled its rehab program and is the highest ranked orthopedic program in the state. The hospital provides services including general surgery, audiology, pulmonology, ENT and delivers 54% of the babies in Broward County. Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital believes its duty is to advocate on behalf of the children; its design is also driven by direct parent and patient feedback. Community involvement is key to the success of the hospital. It has a contract to provide trainers to 29 schools in the County, including Coral Springs Charter School. It has been a sponsor of local events such as the Kreul Classic and the Festival of the Arts.

2020 Small Company Award – Rema Deo founded 24by7 Security in 2013 and provides cybersecurity and compliance for highly regulated businesses; healthcare is its largest client portfolio. As the CEO of a woman and minority-owned business, Remo prides herself on her diverse staff of 16, six of whom were hired in 2019. The expansion of services including breach environment simulation, client cyber certification and cyber advice training to small and midsize businesses allowed for 25% growth over the past year. This Small Company Award winner has won multiple awards from Info Security Guide and CEO World Awards. 24by7 Security is guided by the key values of passion, accountability, good teamwork, integrity and responsiveness. The company is a strong supporter of professional development and interns. It believes in taking the time to hire the right person with the right character.

2020 Legacy Award – Oma’s Garden, the 2020 Legacy Award winner, has been in the City for 30 years. Diane Farrar promised her grandmother that she would take care of her gardens after she passed; a self-admitted “black thumb”, she opened the shop instead. She has built relationships with her customers over the years and seen families through births, proms, weddings and other major life milestones. Oma’s has seen 10% growth year over year. She employs four people and works with local high school ESE programs.

2020 Large Company Award – 2020 Large Company Award Winner United Medco Pharmaceuticals is a distributor and wholesaler of over the counter medicines and products. This company incorporated in 2004 and has demonstrated steady growth since its creation. United Medco employs 120 individuals in their state-of-the-art facility in Coral Springs Corporate Park. The company is expanding to a second facility in Coral Springs to accommodate an additional 100 employees. This fast-growing company is committed to providing cost-effective, quality products and exceptional customer service to their nationwide customers.

Headquartered in Coral Springs since 2016, the company employs 36 individuals and is in the process of expanding its talent pool to maintain its rapid growth. Company to Watch Award – Owned and operated by Naztazia and Dennis Wellert, Nothing Bundt Cakes not only serve up delicious desserts, they hire and mentor local teens and assist other franchisees opening nationwide. They selected Coral Springs to open their franchise because of its reputation as a family-friendly community and when they opened their shop, they relocated their family to the City.

Legacy Award – Family-owned and operated, Doris Italian Market is a staple of the Coral Springs community and proudly known as the gourmet market without the gourmet prices. Large Company Award – Whether you are looking to book travel or become a travel advisor, Cruise Planners has been inspiring travelers to see the world – by land or by sea – for more than 25 years. The company, founded by CEO Michelle Fee, employs more than 120 at their state-of-the-art Coral Springs office and been recognized and honored globally by the largest and well-known cruise and destination resort organizations.

Heart of the Community – Owned and operated John Biesterfield and family, Green Thumb is more than the largest Lawn Mower Super Store in Florida. The company believes that giving back to the community is paramount to their business model. Last year, Green Thumb organized a collection of more than $50K to ensure the daughter of Coach Aaron Feis has her college paid for in full. In addition, Green Thumb had the financing on Feis’s riding lawn mower paid for and donated it back to Marjory Stoneman Douglas Athletic Department, to mow the very lawn Feis coached students on throughout his career.
