Robert Curnow was named Assistant City Manager and Chief Innovation Officer for the City of Coral Springs in February 2019. Joining the City in 2012, Curnow served as the Information Technology Manager until his promotion to Director of Information Technology in 2017. From October 2018 through February 2019, Curnow served as Interim Deputy City Manager.
A proud public servant, Curnow’s entire career has been working in some form of government. He started with Broward County Water and Waste Water Services in 1989 as a Maintenance Worker, before being promoted to Utilities Mechanic and Maintenance Scheduler. Curnow recognized the advancements and importance of technology within his division, and successfully completed Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer courses. That educational opportunity earned him a promotion to Systems Network Analyst I. Of his career advancements, Curnow says he would learn every aspect of his focus area, making himself more promotable.
Curnow joined the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Technical Service Unit in 2000, providing detectives from specialized units with technical support in undercover operations. He was promoted to Police Systems Administrator, where he served as the local agency security officer, ensuring FDLE compliance.
In 2008, Curnow was presented with an opportunity to return to Broward County in a more defined leadership role as their Systems Network Analyst III, overseeing infrastructure. When Curnow joined Coral Springs in 2012, he brought with him vast experience in treatment plant technology (SCADA) as well as public safety. He saw the transition to municipal government, specifically Coral Springs, to be a city large enough for enterprise technology and small enough that he would be exposed to all of it. Of a career with Coral Springs, he knew of the City’s reputation to offer educational advancements and being a great place to work. Curnow seized the opportunity offered by the City to further his education, attending Barry University, where he went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology and Master’s Degree in Public Administration.
Married for the past 14 years to Jacki, who is an educator for children with special needs, they have two sons, Jaxon and Jordan. He and his wife are passionate about physical fitness, Jacki is a distance runner, while Curnow enjoys cross-fit and mountain-biking. When not exercising, the family often travels for Jaxon’s gymnastics competition team.
In his new role as Assistant City Manager, Curnow oversees large-scale City projects and enterprise resource planning. As Chief Innovative Officer, he evaluates data and solicits ideas from employees throughout the organization. These ideas – from the simplest to most complex – are given value and pushed forward for the betterment of the City, and residents we are committed to serve.
